Many are under the impression that cutting the grass and maintaining a nice looking yard is difficult. Here are three simple lawn mowing tips to help you create the yard of your dreams.
Maintain Your Equipment
While many say a poor craftsman blames his tools, in lawn care, you are only as good as your equipment. If you take care of your equipment, it will take care of you. Small engine repair and maintenance, including yard tools and lawn mowers is key to keeping your lawn looking great.
Make sure to sharpen the mower’s blades at least 1-2x per month (depending on how large your yard is) during the mowing season. Also, make sure to regularly change the spark plugs after 25 hours of use.
Instead of bagging your grass clippings, let your mower disperse them across your lawn. These clippings will keep your mower from clogging with grass and redistributes valuable nutrients back into your yard (free fertilizer!).
Cut Your Grass at the Proper Height
Cutting your grass at the right height will support proper root growth without harming the turf. Aim to never cut off more than 1/3 of the grass blade during each mowing to ensure the grass won’t be shocked too much.
Cutting at Right Time
Cutting your grass at midday in the heat can place a lot of stress on your grass, so if possible best to cut your grass in the early evening or morning hours as long as there is not much dew on the lawn.
